i am quite sure that memorial day weekend was created to do yard work... or at least that is what my memorial weekends have been about lately. today i...
...planted two trees
...finished a project that i started three years ago (yes three years ago!)
...moved and replanted several plants
...weed whipped the yard
...helped my homie drew patch his pool (actually i just help him by the ankles as he hung head first into his pool, yes it looked very awkward)
...helped drew finish a sandbox in his yard
and now i'm getting ready to eat some red meat from the grill.

speaking of red meat... i was in the yard from 10am until 6:30pm, WITHOUT SUNSCREEN!!!

i am the red meat now!

anywho... HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL.

thanks for your service to our country all you veterans out there.

special props to you wilbur. you are a great man!

a fresh word...

bibles

i have read several versions/translations of the Bible since i have become a follower of Jesus. i think the first Bible i read was a CEV. then i began to read the NLT. for the longest time i was all NLT. (8 years, i would guess.) just doing a quick search online i came in contact with over 23 english translations and versions of the same Bible.

a few years back i began to read "the message". when i made the switch it was as if my Bible was alive again. i was reading the same teaching, the same parables, the same songs, poems, and prophecies... but with the fresh wording i was awakened to a new excitement to read my Bible. it was a very special thing.

several weeks ago because of a class i was taking i needed to pick up a new version... i picked up a NASB. the knock i had always heard about the NASB was that it was difficult to read and not the easiest to teach from. but, it was an actual word for word translation. well, i am feeling the same excitement about reading God's Word that i experienced a few yaers back when i switched to "the message." i have found myself over the last few days sitting in my favorite chair holding my new Bible and looking up different passages and reading things new again. it is so cool.

i would suggest to anyone who is a follower of Jesus to pick up a new version of the Bible every few years. maybe it won't make a lick of difference, but maybe it will. don't chuck out any of the "old" versions you have. keep them to cross check and read from them all.

anyway... it has been a way cool thing for me, and i would love to pass along that insight to you.

read on.
love on.
